I sit and I gaze as I think about life
Not only the good things, but also the strife.
I'm blessed in this life with quite a few friends
Real friends that love me and will 'til the end.

How trusting, how kind, how loyal they are,
They keep in touch no matter how far.
But some people aren't always what they appear
Tho they give you their smile and keep calling you dear.

When you are gone and out of their sight
They run to and fro like a thief in the night.
They tell all they know and add their own lies
They gossip and monger with fire in their eyes.

Maybe you know someone, not a friend at all
And she pretends she's an angel, holds herself tall,
Preaches the Good Book, raises her eyes to the sky,
And calls you a friend while she's spreading her lies.

She travels from one to another in her disguise,
Preaching her love but telling her lies.
It matters not what damage is done,
She enjoys what she does, she has lots of fun.

A real friend will keep all they hear deep within
A gossip monger tells lies just so she can win.
But sooner or later all the lies do come out
And then you will hear her loud mournful shout.

So love all your friends but beware of the fakes
They smile and they hug while their lies they still make.
Now what can you do when this isn't a friend,
When she says she's your friend but it's all just pretend?

All you can do is be honest and true
The people that matter know the real you.
Though the lies they will hurt and make you cry
The deceit will catch up to her
by and by.

So I hold on to the love my real friends will give,
Stay away from the liar and try to forgive.
Soon toward another her lies will begin
Her gossip continues but....

She will never win.
